A Rabbit's Diet

A rabbit's diet consists of pellets, hay, greens which include: dark leaf romaine lettuce, dandelions, carrot tops, broccoli, basil, spinach, celery, and artichokes, twigs, branches, water, grass, herbs, and bark.

Method of Rabbit's Obtaining Food

Rabbit's graze heavily for about the first half hour of a grazing period followed by a half an hour of more selective feeding.  During this time, the rabbit will also excrete many hard fecal pellets, that will not be reingested.  If the environment is non-threatening, the rabbit will stay outdoors for many hours, grazing over periods of time.

A Rabbit's Behavior/Activities

Rabbit's tend to explore new spaces and if they are confronted by a potential threat, they tend to freeze and observe.  They survive by burrowing and hopping away from danger.   Rabbits have a remarkably wide field of vision, and a good deal of it is devoted to overhead scanning. Both indoors and outdoors, rabbits will scan for overhead threats. They survive by burrowing, hopping away from danger and delivering powerful kicks with their hind legs.
